Since he took office in November, Hariri has visited Syria five times, forging what he calls "a special relationship" with Assad and opening "a new page" in bilateral relations, strained following the assassination of Hariri's father. The Western-backed, anti-Syrian March 14 coalition has accused Syria of responsibility for Hariri's killing, a charge Damascus has repeatedly denied.
