Description
Week July 11-July 15, 2011 The Syrian Press has this week mainly focused on recent incidents in Hama, Syria's fourth city in the middle of the country, as well as the national dialogue meetings held at the beginning of the week. Newspapers still hold that life is returning to normal without any anti-regime demonstrations being held in the country, and only occasionally report on casualties, from either the opposition or the security forces. Semi-independent daily AL-WATAN reported July 11 that many Syrian refugees, held by the daily to have escaped from terrorist groups in Jisr Shughur, were "struggling to cross the border back into Syria, as a result of Turkish obstruction". Government-owned daily AL-THAWRA reported July 14 that 206 refugees had returned from Turkey to Jisr Shughur during the two previous days. Altogether, 8,000 people have returned to the village, according to the daily.
